Personality (at least four sentences):
Unlike most children his age, Renn appears to be rather intelligent in matters far beyond his time. Being able to read minds has taught him that people are not always what they seem, as their thoughts often give way to dark desires not visible to anyone else.
Therefore, this has made Renn a much more guarded person--he is very careful around people, and very careful with who he trusts and confides in. Anyone could be ready to betray him in a second, or so he figures.
Despite his intelligance, Renn occasionally does his best to ruin this image by flouting all good sense. Hugely stubborn, he can be quite obstinate and pig-headed when he wants to be – particularly when he’s fleeing what he sees as unfair rules and regulations. He has been known to rebel, but this is likely due to his childhood and him not being able to fully trust others for fear of being used again.
History (at least four sentences):
Renn was born and raised in a small village situated near the Obergon Woods. As a child he spent most of his life being traded around and used by people who saught use for his talent. This is because he was the first Listener to live in over seven hundred years, meaning he possessed the ability to read people's minds.
When Darken Rahl realized the true purpose the Listener could serve him, he sent his finest soldiers to locate the boy. However, when the Seeker found out what was happening, he intervened and rescued Renn. Unfortunately, Renn was rather ungrateful and made life for Richard and Kahlan almost unbearable. He refused to co-operate and even blackmailed Richard into catching him a tasty lunch, which put them behind schedule. However, after a run in with the D'Haran soldiers, Renn immediately feels guilty, as he can't understand why Richard put his life on the line to save his.
The next day, they come across a man who claims he is Renn’s father, which is impossible to believe. Renn says that the man is telling the truth and they leave together. However, it turns out the man was really Renn's step father and he had only retrieved him so that he could sell him back to the D'Haran's. Renn had agreed to go because he knew more men were coming, and he wanted to protect Richard. The Seeker manages to save him again, and Renn goes to live in Thandore where he will be safer.
